| Dara Carrol was born in 1958 in Carlisle. He attended Westholme School, Blackburn, from 1962 until he was accepted as a junior chorister at the New College Oxford Choir. He became head chorister in 1971. He was a promising viola and piano player. In September 1972 he left the choir and continued his studies as a music scholar at Clifton College, Bristol.
He is now deputy head of the music department at Thomas Telford School
Kenneth Leighton Dara Carroll also sings solo on the LP In Quires and Places No. 7 (Abbey LPB 716) 1972, the LP Evensong at New College Oxford (Abbey LPB 725) 1973
