

Dara Carrol was born in 1958 in Carlisle. He attended Westholme School, Blackburn, from 1962 until he was accepted as a junior chorister at the New College Oxford Choir. He became head chorister in 1971. He was a promising viola and piano player. In September 1972 he left the choir and continued his studies as a music scholar at Clifton College, Bristol.
